This had a bit of a tortured history. Back in about 1991 (about the same time I did this Kitty Pryde image [link]
) I drew a picture of Rogue in this pose, in her Australian outfit - she had huge spiky hair, a wonky face and looooooong legs. I was in my "ripping off Art Adams" phase.
Even back then I wasn't keen on it, so a couple of years later I re-did the image with her green & yellow outfit. (Then I'd moved onto my "ripping off Jim Lee" phase.) Unfortunately I still didn't have a good grasp of basic human anatomy - she was pretty, but the hair was awful and she still had unfeasably long legs. Seriously, Rogue was about 9 heads high and wearing high-heeled boots! This was about the time when "good girl" art was gaining popularity, when all female characters wore exploitative outfits and always stood on tip-toes for some reason.
Digging through my old art folder I found some of my old images and wanted to post them here. I was trying to get the old Rogue picture into a decent state, but it didn't matter how much I messed around with it in Photoshop, the proportions were still way off and I never felt I could show it to anyone.
So, I just thought I'd start from scratch and here she is! The third iteration of this picture in over 20 years! Still not perfect and her hair is still a bit big, but that was the style of the mid-90s X-Men. And at least her legs look like they belong to an actual human being. Although now I think of it her feet do look a bit large...
UPDATE: Made some slight tweaks to her feet and face to balance her out a bit.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Adjusted her right arm (left to us) so it looks more like it joins onto her shoulder.
